Animal head swastika

European Museums, Budapest History Museum, Hungary

Swastika with animal head on the sides.

Objects worn against bad luck are relics of the pagan Shaman beliefs: beads, keys, chains, bones, tusks and bird claws. The cross, symbol of the Christian faith, may have been worn by the Avars without religious convictions. The double bone flutes and pipes are a reflection of the musical skills of the Avars.
