Pre-Scythian culture (8th Century B.C. - middle of 7th Century B.C.)
Bronze bits, strap dividers and weapons from the Great Hungarian Plain are the legacy of a militant race, whose members were highly skilled in horseriding. Similar objects were used by the nomadic peoples inhabiting the grassy lowlands lying to the north of the Black Sea in 800 - 700 B.C.
Clay vessels, bronze, and iron jewellery and parts of the harness were placed in the graves next to the deceased, who were buried in boh extended and contracted positions. The Pre-Scythians spread the use of iron objects in the eastern half of the Carpathian Basin. Their heritage includes the earliest objects of the so-called zoomorphic style.
