Pendant, chi-rho symbol inside a circle

European Museums, Budapest History Museum, Hungary

Chiro on a metal pendant.

The first Sarmatian immigrants (1st century A.D.), the Jazygi, originated from the region of the Black Sea and brought with themselves their characteristic golden jewellery: thin gold plates sewn on the dress, beads, pendants, earrings, bracelets and rings. The golden beads were complemented with beads made of carnelian gemstones.

The finds uncovered at Osztropataka (Ostrovany) belonged to the grave of a Germanic (Vandalian) person of high rank.
