The Celtic tribes are the oldest historically documented ethnic group north of the Alps. The Celts belonged to a group of Indo-European tribes and from their original settlements, which lay in southwestern Germany, eastern France and the surrounding parts of Switzerland, gradually occupied the whole of Western Europe in several waves and at a time of historically documented expansion between the 4th and 2nd centuries. BC crossed the Alps and reached northern and central Italy as far as Rome. To the east, they advanced through the Danube to the Carpathian Basin and the Balkans, and on to Asia Minor. The Celts failed to create their own state, so they could not effectively face the pressure of the Romans from the south and the Germans from the north, and at the turn of the century, their political power in Europe collapsed.

At the time of its greatest power boom, the Celts occupied the 4th century. BC the most fertile parts of our countries. Bohemia was inhabited by the Boi tribe, according to which the Germanic Markomans named the country Boiohaemum Another...

Keltské kmeny jsou nejstaršími historickými zprávami doloženým etnikem severně od Alp. Keltové patřili ke skupině indoevropských kmenů a ze svých původních sídel, jež ležela v jihozápadním Německu, východní Francii a přilehlé části Švýcarska, obsadili postupně v několika vlnách celou západní Evropu a v době historicky doložené expanze mezi 4. a 2. stol. př. n. l. překročili Alpy a severní a střední Itálií se dostali až k Římu. Na východ postupovali Podunajím do Karpatské kotliny a na Balkán a dále až do Malé Asie.
Keltům se nepodařilo vytvořit vlastní stát, nedokázali proto účinně čelit tlaku Římanů z jihu a Germánů ze severu a na přelomu letopočtu se jejich politická moc v Evropě zhroutíla.
V době svého největšího mocenského rozmachu obsadili Keltové ve 4. stol. př. n. l. nejúrodnější části našich zemí. Čechy obýval kmen Bójů, podle něhož nazvalí germánští Markomani zemi Boiohaemum Dalším...
