Jesus fish on block statue of Amenhotep

Block statue of Amenhotep

The compact form of this statue type provided plenty of space for inscriptions. We are told that Amenhotep was overseer of the royal palace in Memphis and that he managed the nation's treasury, the 'houses of silver and gold'.

The text contains a prayer to ensure Amenhotep's continued existence in the hereafter. Amenhotep had this statue placed in the temple of Osiris in Abydos, so that his spirit could partake of daily offerings presented to the god.

18th Dynasty, reign of Amenhotep III (about 1390 - 1352 B.C.)
From Abydos, temple of Osiris
Granodiorite.
