Solar disc, scarabs, and winged creatures on a bronze bowl from Nimrud Bronze bowls from Nimrud 8th Century B.C. These
are part of a hoard found by Austen Henry Layard in 1850 - 1851 in the
North-West Palace at Nimrud. They were probably deposited there in the
8th century B.C. The decoration on the bowls is Phoenician, very similar
in many respects to that of the ivories. The bowls might have been
tribute or taken as booty by the Assyrians during one of their campaigns
to the West.
