Head of a cow symbol on the false door of Sheshi
False door of Sheshi
Sheshi and his wife sit at tables laid with slices of bread. Small images and text invoke more offerings. In a playful detail on the jambs a son and daughter call for their parents' attention.
Sheshi was a royal scribe and inspector of priests - likely those performing the mortuary cult of Khufu in the dead king's pyramid complex. Sheshi's full official name was Neferseshem-Khufu: 'Khufu's guidance is perfect'.
Early 5th Dynasty, about 2450 B.C.
