An angel and a flower on a piece of gold jewelry.
Jewelry from Camirus
Most of this jewelry was found in tombs at Camirus on Rhodes, where it was probably made between about 660 and 620 B.C. The materials used are gold, silver and electrum (a natural alloy of gold and silver). Some of the pieces were mended in antiquity or show signs of wear. The rectangular plaques were probably worn strung together across the upper edge of a tunic-like garment, fastened at the shoulders. Many of the motifs are near-eastern in origin.
