Gold personal ornaments, animal head on the tip

European Museums, The British Museum

Gold personal ornaments

The monsters' tails on the bracelets interlock and the animal on the ring is biting its tail. The style is related to Scythian art from the Caucasus or western Siberia rather than the Persian Empire. They are among the few artifacts in the British Museum which relate to the Scythians. The winged monster on the brooch was originally inlaid with precious stones and may have been on a hat or as a hair accessory.

5th - 4th Century B.C.
