Leopard skin worn by priest on the stele of Sapair

Sapair manages the navigators of Egypt's royal fleet. In Abydos, not far from the temple of Osiris, he built himself an offering chapel where this stela was displayed. At the top he prays to Osiris himself, king of the netherworld. In the second scene Sapair, his wife and two children receive their offerings for the afterlife. Their eldest son, who wears the leopard skin of a priest, pours libations. The text at the bottom is a prayer that invokes all manner of blessings for Sapair's spirit, including offerings first presented on the altars of the local gods. 18th Dynasty, reign of Thutmose IV (about 1400 -1390 B.C.).
