This banknote is worth one string of 1000 coins. The note is named at the top as 'Great Ming Circulating Treasure Note'. The string of coins is illustrated at the center of the note. Although Ming banknotes have denominations expressed in bronze coins, in fact silver was increasingly being used at this time.

In China in 621 A.D. a new coin was introduced. The inscription announced the beginning of a new era of coinage. Its influence was felt across Central and East Asia. The world's first paper money was also introduced in Tang Dynasty China.
