European Museums, The British Museum

Falcon-headed god with head-dress with two uraei on thesculpture of king Thutmose III

This is a rare example of an Egyptian temple sculpture in which the figures face in four directions. This suggests it stood in the middle of a room. Three persons are represented twice. King Thutmose III (now headless) stands hand in hand with the god Montu-Ra (falcon-headed and the goddess Hathor. By touching the ruler's hands the gods infuse him with their supernatural powers.

18th Dynasty, reign of Thutmose III (about 1479-1425 B.C.)

From Thebes, Kamak, temple of Amun-Ra
