Solar disc on a silver bowl

Silver bowl with inscription of Artaxerxes I

This is one of four similar silver bowls which all have an identical inscription: 'Artaxerxes, the great king, king of kings, king of countries, son of Xerxes the king, of Xerxes [who was] son of Darius the king, the Achaemenian, in whose house this silver drinking cup was made'. They may have been part of a matching set belonging to the court of Artaxerxes I (465 - 424 B.C.).

Said to be from Hamadan, western Iran
