Solar discs and wings on the Stela of Semty Junior

Stela of Semty Junior

Semty, here depicted with his mother, was in charge of the regalia of King Amenemhat II. His elder brother, whose stela is also in the British Museum, cared for the ruler's crowns and robes.

Semty left this stela at Abydos when returning to the capital from Elephantine, Egypt's southern border town. While in Abydos, he participated in the annual Osiris festival, acting as helmsman on the god's sacred boat during a river procession (similar to the owner of the statue on the left).

12th Dynasty, reign of Amenemhat II (about 1922 - 1878 B.C.)
