Knot on the stela of Simontu

Stela of Simontu

Simontu and his wife have received a wealth of offerings, while sons and daughters attend below. The text records Simontu's birth in the reign of Amenemhat I and his various appointments by the next king, Senwosret I. At one stage he was a scribe at an institution that ran a nationwide system of compounds where common people were temporarily conscripted to work for the state. Simontu eventually became 'overseer of works in the entire land'. A note at the top dates the stela to Year 3 of the reign of Amenemhat II.

12th Dynasty Year 3 of the reign of Amenemhat II, 1925 B.C.
