Coins of revolution and oppression. Rome (Italy) and Judea (southern Israel and southern Palestine), 66-71 A.D. When the Jews rebelled against the abuses of Roman rule in 66 A.D., they issued their own shekels. In 70 A.D., the Roman authorities regained control of Jerusalem, and the Temple (shown in the image above) was destroyed. Coins were issued in Rome to celebrate the defeat of Judaea.
