Winged disc and a crescent on a stone

Memorial stone

This stela looks like a boundary stone but was set up by a son in honor of his father. They are depicted together. Their shaven heads show that both were priests; the son, as was common, has adopted his father's profession. Symbols of the gods offer divine protection.

About 900 - 800 B.C.

From the Marduk Temple, Babylon, southern Iraq
