Teotihuacan, Classic Period.

The Classic period is characterized by long distance influence by great city states. This is the case of Teotihuacan, located in the center of Mexico, as well as Copan Southwest of Honduras, both had different degree of presence on Western El Salvador, something that has been evident in elite burials. A specific case is the decipherment of glyphs from a ceramic vessel found in one of the tombs at Tazumal. Thanks to this study we know that the individual buried belonged to the elite of Chalchuapa between 738 - 761 A.D. and had relations with Copan. Also, in Quelepa archaeological site in San Miguel, influences from Veracruz, Mexico have been identified.
