History of female terracotta heads and figures nursing a child

The female terracotta heads and the figure nursing a child are images present in the western Mediterranean and represent the Greek Demeter or the Carthaginian Tanit, goddesses of fertility. Iberian assimilations in whose background is the Great Mother Goddess. They are found in places of worship and in necropolis, where they are very frequent, assuming the role of protection of the deceased. The faithful are related to the gods through ex-votos, which are offerings that are made to request a favor, or to honor them. The representation of divinities is also manifested in ceramics, especially in the symbolic style of La Alcudia de Elche.
