Skull from the 3rd Century

Dei Ausgrabungen entdeckten Mitarbeiter des Frankfurter Denkmalamtes 1993 im romischen NIDA die Skelette von einem Mann, einer Frau und einem Kind. Sie waren brutal ermordet und anschlieBend in einen Brunnen geworfen worden, der mit Bautrummern und Kuchenabfallen verfullt war. Schalge auf Gesicht und Schadel sowie auf den Korper kunden von einer grausamen Gewalttat.

Keramikfragmente datieren das Verbrechen in die Mitte des 3. Jahrhunderts, als innerromische Auseinandersetzungen und germanische Uberfalle die Zivilbevolkerung bedrohten. Nach der anthropologischen Analyse gehorten die Toten einer germanischen Volksgruppe an.

Eine an der Universitat Mainz vorgenommene mtDNA-Analyse ergab, dass die Frau und das Kind in mutterlicher Linie verwandt sein mussen, der Mann aber nicht als Vater in Frage kommt.

Mit Hilfe einer Gesichtsrekonstruktion ist es moglich, sich vonder erschlagenen jungen Frau wieder ein Bild zu machen.

In 1993, employees of the Frankfurt Monuments Office discovered the skeletons of a man, a woman and a child in Roman NIDA. They had been brutally murdered and then thrown into a well filled with construction debris and cake scraps. Beatings on the face and skull as well as on the body tell of a cruel act of violence.

Ceramic fragments date the crime to the middle of the 3rd century, when internal Roman conflicts and Germanic raids threatened the civilian population. According to the anthropological analysis, the dead belonged to a Germanic ethnic group.

An mtDNA analysis carried out at the University of Mainz showed that the woman and the child must be related in the maternal line, but that the man cannot be the father.

With the help of a facial reconstruction, it is possible to get a picture of the young woman who was killed.
