Uber das Dekorative hinaus waren Verzierungsmuster sicher auch Ausdruck von Identitat und Tradition.
Im spaten Neolithikum ist von einer rudimentaren Bilderschrift auszugehen, die lebensbestimmende Naturphanomene zum Ausdruck bringt. Hierzu zahlt das Ahrensymbol auf dem Osenhenkel einer schnurkeramischen Amphore aus dem Stadtwald.

In addition to being decorative, ornamental patterns were certainly also an expression of identity and tradition.

In the late Neolithic it can be assumed that a rudimentary pictorial writing expresses life-determining natural phenomena. The corn symbol on the oscillating handle of a corded ceramic amphora from the city forest counts for this.
