The carefree combination of traditional heathen with new Christian amulets and signs is characteristic of the early medieval folk belief. In Merovingian graves from the late 6th and 7th centuries. this is often to be found, as exemplified by the women's graves 31 and 88 from Frankfurt-Niedererlenbach.
