Babylonian stone

A woman clutches two lotus blossoms to her breasts. Her hair is dressed in an Egyptian fashion with long locks flowing over her shoulders, but the tight curls at the ends and the single eyebrow above her almond-shaped eyes are Babylonian in style. She forms part of a jar, fashioned out of a fine-grained white stone from Egypt. The jar was a luxurious import to Babylon at a time when it was a serious rival to Assyrian power. The Babylonian empire dominated the Middle East from 612 to 539 BC.
