Solar cross on a prechristian decorative wall plaques

Decorative wall plaques
The Assyrians decorated their palaces with brightly coloured plaques in shades of yellow, black and white. Wall paintings show they were placed just above head height and fixed in a pattern of alternating circular (1) and square shapes (2). Their decorative motifs, palmettes, pomegranates, guilloches, squares and chevrons, are also thought to have been protective symbols.
