Syrian handicrafts from the Early Iron Age

Syrian handicrafts enjoyed a good reputation in antiquity; its products were exported to many countries. Ivory works made in numerous specialized workshops were particularly popular. At that time, the raw material could still mainly be obtained from local herds of elephants, which later died out. The metal craftsmen made artistic jewelry and everyday objects such as vessels and mirrors. The objects on display here are all from Sam'al and date to the 9th-7th centuries. century B.C. to date.
