Prison of Socrates cave entrance

This image shows the rock cut chambers known as the so called Prison of Socrates on Filopappos Hill. The openings are carved directly into the limestone cliff and appear as a series of rectangular entrances. Although linked by later tradition to the philosopher Socrates, the chambers were likely used for practical or sacred purposes in antiquity.
