Man dressed in himation, Silon's dedication (relief stele)

Acropolis Museum, Athens, Greece

Detail of Silon's dedication relief stele. A small, curved relief panel carved into a shape resembling a sandal (blaute), which contains a standing male figure. This figure is draped in a mantle and raises one arm. The stone is visibly cracked and restored. An inscription, including the name Silon, is incised below the sandal-shaped relief. The artifact is a dedication possibly associated with the cult of the Hero on Blaute on the south slopes of the Acropolis.
