The fortification walls of Acrocorinth, the acropolis of ancient Corinth, rise up the steep rocky hillside. Built from massive limestone blocks, the walls follow the natural shape of the mountain, with towers and a stone stairway climbing alongside them. Below, the Corinthian plain and the waters of the Isthmus spread out, while the high position allowed the fortress to watch over routes from both the east and west into the Peloponnese.
