Ancient armor fragments

National Archeological Museum, Athens, Greece

Material: Bronze
Date range: Late 3rd century BC to 167 BC
Origin: Likely Kalydon or a nearby Greek sanctuary

The symbols on these armor pieces, like the thunderbolt and the star, are closely tied to the king of the gods, Zeus.

The relief of a winged thunderbolt on the epaulette is a direct symbol of religious authority and celestial force.
