Swastikas Patterned robe of Phrasikleia

National Archeological Museum, Athens, Greece

Detailed carving and remaining paint on the long dress, or chiton, of the Phrasikleia statue. The marble surface is incised with a variety of geometric and floral patterns, including rosettes, stars, and swastikas, which were originally enhanced with bright red and yellow pigments. A vertical decorative band, known as a meander, runs down the center of the garment, mimicking the appearance of expensive woven textiles from the Archaic period.
