Female figure with fish tail, elamite bronze

European Museums, The British Museum

This woman's hairstyle closely resembles those depicted on the figurines, shown nearby, from Susa. The heavily flounced skirt is a style also depicted on Elamite rock reliefs. This object is said to be from Tang-i Sarvak in south-wast Iran and may originally have been fitted onto the arm-rest of a throne. It is unclear why the figure has a fish tail. It was thought to be unique, but in May 2007 others were found in a grave at a nearby site. 1400 - 1200 B.C., south-west Iran
