Mithras killing bull depiction on a marble

Archaeological Museum of Frankfurt, Germany

Small consecration relief. Marble. Mithraum III of NIDA. Marble reliefs of this type were made in the Danube provinces. The depiction is based on the great cult images, the focus of which is the killing of the bull by Mithras. The fragments of the relief bear various traces of paint, which can give us an idea of the original painting (see the reconstructed paintwork). Complemented and assembled.
