Kudurru Fragment. Kassite period, reign of Kashtiliashu IV (1232-1225 BC) Discovered at Susa where he had been taken as spoils of war in the 12th century. av. Limestone The text, incomplete, is the confirmation by King Kashtiliashu of a gift of land, granted formerly, under the reign of Kurigalzu, to a character - whose name is illegible - in reward for loyal services rendered during a battle. Several generations later, the beneficiary's heir receives from Kashtiliashu the guarantee of the validity of his property titles. The decor shows a seated dog facing a genius with the head of a lion and a human body who brandishes a dagger and a mace. This fearsome demon plays a protective role here, threatening all those who contest the validity of the title deeds. J. de Morgan excavations Sb 30
