103. OTTOMAN EMPIRE, 16-19 CENTURY. 1630-1850: evolution and decline. Around 1630-1660, the blues predominate, the red becomes more discreet, the drawing loses precision (1 to 3). Appear representations of Mecca and Medina (4) placed in places of prayer, near the mihrab. It was not uncommon for a gap to be filled with a re-used tile of a different pattern. Around 1720-1750, ceramists from Iznik came to Istanbul to produce tiles with a lively palette, including yellow, but the quality of which was uneven (5). Their motifs gained in style. In the 18th and 19th centuries, K?tahya became the main center of ceramic production (6) Craftsmen, mostly Armenians, responded to orders placed for churches
